Long distance move from NJ to TN

Cross Country Movers (CCM), also operating under the name “Moving and Storage” in South Florida, is not a moving company but a broker—a fact they fail to clearly disclose.

I was referred to CCM through 2Movers.com while preparing to relocate from New Jersey to Tennessee. The initial interaction was promising: the sales representative was friendly, knowledgeable, and provided a quote based on my inventory, including a 600 lb safe that required specialized equipment. I was assured they had the necessary tools and capabilities.

We scheduled the pickup for June 25, with June 26 as a backup. Two days prior, I had to initiate contact to confirm the date. During the inventory review, the volume increased by 175 cubic feet, which I accepted, but the rate per cubic foot was also raised by 11% without prior notice—cited as a labor adjustment.

The pickup was first delayed to June 26 without explanation, despite no rain issues. I will concede that there was a heat wave that Mon through Wed, but that was not the reason given for the delay. The truck was then supposed to arrive at 4pm, but it arrived 30 min late. Oddly, two of the movers arrived on time. Contrary to CCM’s claims, the truck was a third-party rental, not CCM or “Moving and Storage SF” branded, and the crew was neither uniformed nor CCM employees. The driver had just met the laborers that day and paid them in cash.

While the crew handled the items with care, the promised equipment for moving the safe was not provided. The team attempted to lift the safe manually, which was unsafe, so I had to leave it behind and will have to arrange for a new, separate transport.

Due to volume limits, I had to leave some furniture behind. After loading, we completed paperwork and scheduled delivery no later than July 5. Unfortunately, the delivery process was equally disorganized. I received conflicting updates, and the delivery date shifted multiple times, ultimately landing on July 5.

Upon arrival, the truck was not the original one used for pickup, indicating my belongings were transferred without my knowledge or supervision. Payment was required in cash or money order before unloading—no secure payment options were accepted. This led to a tense situation that required police involvement to ensure my items were released.

The handling of my belongings during the transfer was careless. Boxes marked “Do Not Stack” were crushed under heavy items, and other customers’ items were mixed in with mine. I had to personally oversee the unloading to ensure proper placement in storage.

Conclusion:

I cannot recommend Cross Country Movers. Their lack of transparency, use of third-party contractors, poor communication, and mishandling of items made this a highly stressful experience. I strongly advise verifying that any moving company you hire owns its trucks and employs its own trained staff.

Smoothest move ever!

I relocated from a small studio into a shared house and had minimal stuff, mostly a bed frame, wardrobe boxes, and my computer setup. Even though it wasn’t a big move, the team still gave it full attention. They wrapped my monitor without me asking and asked where to place each item. It felt really organized, even though I was honestly expecting something rushed or basic.

Stolen ad broken items

This company still sucks! UPDATE: ITEMS ARE STILL STOLEN & THE OWNER IS STILL ACTING AS IF THIS IS NORMAL. This company is terrible. I had over 20 boxes STOLEN and Cross County movers told me no crime has been committed. Not onlv was my delivery over 40 days late but are now refusing to answer any phone calls or emails regarding this disaster. From the 1 star reviews it seems as if this is a frequent thing and the owner who truly is a liar himself is acting as if this isn't a huge issue. THIS COMPANY SUCKS and it is my hope that they will be shut down sooner rather than later.

It was a relief that all went so smoothly.

They insisted on doing

They insisted on doing everything themselves so we just stood back and watched. We struggled to move a few boxes over 3 days and they moved all of our furniture and heavy packed boxes in an hour and a half. They started the morning

They started the morning picking up a fridge in West Orange and bringing it to the home we moved from in Bayonne and took the fridge along with furniture to West Orange They packed and treated our things with care. Zero complaints

Zero complaints, my movers were professional and a pleasure to have in both my apartment and new home. They worked hard

They worked hard and diligently through the day to get everything moved in timely manner. Even at the end of the day everyone was in a good mood. We live on a Texas

We live on a Texas mountain and we have three different levels in the front with steps and they used a padded dolly and really all three of the men’s strength to get this beast in the house to our 10 foot high ceiling when you’re required to have 9 feet at least to work out on it. The front door was the only door that was wide enough to get it in and my husband had to takeoff the door frame frames from two doors to get it into the new workout room. I recommend this company and these three people 1000%!

Great experience with these movers.

Great experience with these movers. Most budget friendly option I found. They arrived on time, moved all of my apartment furniture and boxes without any issues and were happy to complete any of my additional requests with placing my items at the new location. Movers were friendly and professional.

Only thing to expect is limited communication beforehand… no confirmation email or text for your moving appointment but you can call the main number if needed!

They had personality for days.

They had personality for days. Usually, movers are either silent or grumpy. These gentlemen showed up with high energy and actual smiles.
